Why we need you
This page is for those of you who are generously taking part in
the National Travel Survey, as well as for anyone who is interested
in finding out why they should take part in this study.
Where, why and how people travel are all questions the National
Travel Survey tries to answer. The results make it possible for the
Department for Transport to monitor patterns of travel and
recognise trends.
By looking at trends and the ways in which people travel, the
Department for Transport is able to draw up plans to meet the
country's current and future transport needs. The National Travel
Survey also enables the Department for Transport, as well as other
government departments, to monitor how they are doing in fulfilling
their policy commitments. For example, the National Travel Survey
is asking respondents about their access to a variety of public
services such as local shops or hospitals - reflecting a government
policy commitment to improve access to services and promote social
inclusion.
