
Gareth is a Research Director in the Society and Social Change Team, where he has been responsible for leading research studies across a number of policy areas for government departments, research councils and charitable trusts. His recent work has focused on civic engagement and young people, completing studies on volunteering for DfE and DCMS as well as leading NatCen's Cabinet Office commissioned research into young people's involvement in the August riots in England. Currently, Gareth is leading a major study on multi-dimensional poverty in the UK with think tank Demos and is Consortium Director for the Evaluation of National Citizen Service. Before joining NatCen, Gareth worked as a Senior Researcher at King's College and City University London carrying out research on asylum, refugees and community cohesion, subjects on which he has published widely.
Gareth has extensive experience of qualitative research methods, particularly depth interviewing, deliberative methods and utilizing different approaches to qualitative data analysis. He teaches on a range of NatCen Learning course for qualitative research and leads NatCen's Qualitative Methods Group.
