- 1. How were institutions selected to take part in the survey?
-
All UK Higher Education Institutions and directly funded Further
Education Institutions are invited to participate in the study.
Other institutions that wish to take part are welcome to do so.
- 2. How can I tell if my institution is participating in the survey?
-
We write to every Vice Chancellor of a Higher Education
institution in the UK, inviting them to participate in the survey.
If you want to find out if your institution is taking part please
contact your development office.
- 3. Is participation in the survey compulsory?
-
No.
- 4. Why should our institution take part?
-
Completing the survey is a pre-condition of qualifying for the
matched funding schemes in England and Wales. Institutions that are
not eligible for the scheme are also strongly encouraged to take
part as this input gives us a more accurate picture of gift
revenues and costs in the UK. Participating institutions can
request to receive free benchmarking data about the aggregate
income and costs of institutions similar to their own.
- 5. How can I get advice on what to include in my survey responses?
-
Advice and worked examples can be found in the Reporting Rules
document downloadable from www.rosscasesurvey.org.uk. For more
information please contact the survey helpline team on 020 7549
9584 or email your query to rosscasesurvey@natcen.ac.uk.
- 6. Why do I need to return information about the last three financial years?
-
We need this information to calculate three-year
averages. It's important that information relating to
previous years is collected consistently from all participating
institutions.
- 7. What do I do if I find that my numbers entered in previous years are now in error?
-
Enter the correct numbers for the past three years in this
year's survey.
- 8. What should I do if I am unsure about whether to include an item?
-
Your answers should follow the Reporting Rules document as
closely as possible. You can download this document from www.rosscasesurvey.org.uk. If you're
uncertain about whether particular items should be included, please
use your best judgment rather than give no answer.
- 9. How should I return my questionnaire?
-
Completed questionnaires should be saved and returned by email
to rosscasesurvey@natcen.ac.uk.
- 10. Why have I received a phone call from the survey team at NatCen?
-
We get in touch with participating institutions for a number of
reasons. We may make contact to check that information about the
survey has reached the right person. We might get in touch to see
how institutions are progressing with the questionnaire and once we
have a completed questionnaire we may need to double check
particular details.
