• Child Poverty Family Intervention Project

About this study

As part of the Government’s drive to halve child poverty by 2010-11, special Family Intervention Projects (FIPs) have been set up to help families find their way out of poverty.

Our evaluation of child poverty FIPS runs from 2009 and results will be published in 2011. We will assess whether these projects reduce the risk factors associated with child poverty.

About Child Poverty Family Intervention Projects
Families may have a range of complex needs, from substance misuse and domestic violence to mental health problems. Using assertive and persistent intervention, key workers help families who live in poverty overcome these and similar barriers to employment or training.

Methods

You can read about our study of all types of FIP here.

Key workers use a secure online information system to enter data about families from when they are referred to the child poverty FIP until when they leave.

Our researchers then use this quantitative data to measure family outcomes in connection to employment, housing, crime, health, education, and family issues.
