FAQ: Study

1. Who is funding this study?
The Department for Transport.
2. Why is the study important?
It's the only national source of information on how and why people travel. The Department for Transport uses this information to plan how best to meet our travel needs now and in the future.
3. How are people chosen to take part in the study?
Each year we randomly select around 15,000 households from the Royal Mail’s Postcode Address File. This random selection means that everyone in the UK has an equal chance of being chosen to take part in the study.
4. How do I know if I have been selected to take part in the study?
You will have received a letter in the post.
5. Why have I been selected to take part?
We have chosen your household using a scientific method that means everyone in the UK has an equal chance of being selected, making the survey as fair as possible. No one else can take your place.
6. What does taking part in the study involve?
One of our interviewers will get in touch to see if you would like to take part in the study. Together you will arrange an interview time that is convenient for you.
8. Where can I see the results of the study?

You can find the latest results on the Department for Transport's Personal Travel website.

7. Why should I take part?
This is your opportunity to tell the Department for Transport what transport problems you face and what improvements you'd like to see happening. We want to hear the views of everyone who has been chosen to take part in the study, whether you travel widely, hardly travel or even never travel at all.
