Why we need you
This page is for those of you who are generously taking part in the National Travel Survey, as well as for anyone who is interested in finding out why they should take part in this study.
Where, why and how people travel are all questions the National Travel Survey tries to answer. The results make it possible for the Department for Transport to monitor patterns of travel and recognise trends.
By looking at trends and the ways in which people travel, the Department for Transport is able to draw up plans to meet the country’s current and future transport needs. The National Travel Survey also enables the Department for Transport, as well as other government departments, to monitor how they are doing in fulfilling their policy commitments. For example, the National Travel Survey is asking respondents about their access to a variety of public services such as local shops or hospitals – reflecting a government policy commitment to improve access to services and promote social inclusion.
