

About this study
The Government is rolling out a national programme of individual
tuition for pupils who are falling behind in English and
Mathematics. This research aimed to give a national profile of
private tuition providers for students aged 5-16 in England.
The study used desk research to construct a national database of
tuition agencies, and we also carried out a telephone survey of
providers and qualitative interviews with individual providers. You

Potential policy impact
This study provided evidence about the nature of the private tuition market, and the availability and costs of employing tutors.
