Scottish Health Survey | Participants

An important resource to help improve the nation's health

Sep 2009 |

Why we need you

The Scottish Health Survey provides a detailed picture of the health of the Scottish population. By taking part in the survey you will help the Scottish Government and NHS plan health services and develop health policy. Taking part is your chance to help shape the provision of services that will affect you directly.

To visit every single household in Scotland would take too long and cost too much money. Instead, we select a sample of addresses and ask people at those addresses to take part in the survey. Addresses are chosen at random from a list obtained from the post office. Different addresses are selected to take part in the survey each year.

To ensure we get an accurate picture of the nation's health, once an address has been selected for the survey we cannot replace it with another address. We therefore rely on the goodwill of those who have been chosen for the success of the survey.
