NatCen's research team produced: Chaplin, J., Mangla, J., Purdon, S. and Airey, C. (2005) The Workplace Employee relations Survey (WERS) 2004: Technical Report (Cross-section and Panel Surveys).

A summary of the main findings was issued by the WERS research team at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills - Inside the Workplace: first findings from the 2004 Workplace Employment Relations Survey.

Initiator

Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (at the time this was known as the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, BERR).

Geography

The sample was selected throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

Data security

Respondents are given a detailed account of measures used by WERS Sponsors to maintain confidentiality, both of individuals who were interviewed and the establishments they represent.

Study timeline

  • 2003 - project commissioned
  • 2004 - sampling, interviewer briefings, fieldwork started
  • 2005 - fieldwork completed, data files and weighting produced, technical report produced.
